Heartbreak and Glory

It’s 88 degrees, field’s on fire
The two old rivals clash again, in a rivalry that will never tire.
Winchester, undefeated and defending the honor, versus
Lexington, hungry for another win in their purses.
Heat radiating from the Astroturf, rivers of sweat rushing down faces
Scoring back and forth, the lead travels to different places.
Whistle blows as half time arrives
Coach says we can beat them, just keep our dreams alive.
Anguish and relief go hand in hand you know,
As time winds down, three minutes to go.
Winchester scores, we’re suddenly two goals behind
Defense steps up, Winchester’s attack declines.
Lexington heads to the goal, shoots, SCORES!
Tied game, and Lexington wants more.
Draw is up, ball in the air
Lexington has possession, a minute left in this affair.
Hearts pounding, adrenaline running high
Fatigue all around, as our energy goes by.
Lexington drives again, a crease roll, a shot…
It’s a GOAL, aimed at the perfect spot.
Three seconds left, Lexington feels splendid.
Sweat mixes with tears, the season has ended.
The team rushes the field
Lexington's victory has been sealed.
