Emily Campbell Lilies A false smile, a wall of lies, Which are her best disguises these days, Hide her feelings; hide her hatred of the world. She will execute her plan tonight. A shot is heard in the bitter night. By an innocent child who wonders. Does not, cannot realize, What has happened. Dying, crying, running, A life ends by its own judgment of the world. The hand falls, the gun clatters to the ground. The abject misery is ended. Lilies fall on the coffin lid. All who came just sadly wonder: why? Why did she do it? What cause was there? To end a life as happy as hers.
