Autumn Reflections

The leaves drop, littering the ground.
A tree's naked branches hold a mournful longing,
with empty, outstretched arms
reaching upward
toward a bleak and icy sky.
The ominous, gray clouds
wander listlessly in the heavens,
anxiously waiting
for the sun to sink slowly in the west,
to settle into a starless, black night,
leaving all in darkness.
