Summertime

Stepping on the boardwalk my feet meet the sand.
Soft cool breezes pass by me; I know it's summertime,
the smooth grains also remind me with their warmth
I feel when walking. Mesmerized by the waves.
Over my shoulder I carry my beach towel,
as if it were a bundle of tranquility.

Without worries I’m free to feel tranquil,
sifting my toes through the arid sand.
Spreading out my colorful towel;
flowers of cherry, golden and sapphire, true colors of summertime.
My eyes glued on the soft waves,
breaking at the ocean shore. With nothing but pale winter skin, sunscreen and warmth.

The sun beats on my face, creating serene type warmness.
I lose sense of my body in a pool of tranquility,
while I imagine the crashing waves
spill white foam over the dark damp sand.
Taking a deep breath tasting the salty air of summertime.
Nothing to bother me but blown sand atop my towel.

Every inch of myself surrounded by Teri-cloth towel.
Every hair on my body lifted by intense warmth.
Every snowflake forgotten, now melted in a massive bed of summertime.
Every muscle in my body now tranquil.
Every toe tip immersed in sand.
Every thought washed out by the waves.

Pulling myself upright to see the dazzling waves,
so perfect as if they were on a painted canvas. My towel
reforms again to the newly shifted sand,
I feel the constant focus of warmth
gradually transfer from my face to my back, sending a tranquil
chill down my spine, once again a bold sign of summertime.

The music is cranked up to “Summertime”
by Sublime, accompanied by the sweet sound of waves
echoed by the caw of the seagulls, surprisingly tranquil.
Curled up on my vibrant towel.
I reach for the cooler amidst the rising warmth,
I free my surroundings of all bad karma that could possibly ruin my perfect day, bad karma like sand.

Packing my things heading home for additional tranquility, first shaking then folding my big sandy towel.
I smile still knowing it’s merely the first day of summertime, not having to say goodbye to the waves.
For they will be there tomorrow greeting me with the same soothing crash of hello as well as the sun's powerful morning warmth, knowing every aspect of that special place is where I belong, right there in the coarse yet silk-like sand.
